Arm Balance Workshop Series

Have you always wanted to try arm balances in yoga class but don't know where to start? Have you mastered the basics of arm balances but want to learn transitions and variations? Are you looking for a fun and lighthearted way to spend a Sunday afternoon?? Join Nicole for a step-by-step guide to building an arm balance practice. We'll use props, drills, and assists to build confidence and give you tools to continue working on your arm balances at home and in your regular yoga class.

 

BENEFITS OF ARM BALANCES:

Arm Balances have several benefits in a regular yoga practice. They encourage confidence and create a sense of fun and playfulness. The challenges presented in developing an arm balance practice are both physical and mental. Overcoming the stories that we tell ourselves such as, “I’m not strong enough,” “I’m too old,” “I’m too overweight,” etc. is an essential element of the practice. As in all of yoga the journey is much more important than the destination and there is no end point, no ultimate pose; there is simply the process of overcoming fear and uncertainty and discovering power and strength. The physical benefits of an arm balance practice are important as well. Arm balances are weight-bearing exercises and as such are particularly good for maintaining bone density. They also build and maintain core and upper body strength. Body awareness or proprioception is often more essential to the ability to do an arm balance than physical strength. The understanding of where to place the body will create “ease” in the pose and that body intelligence is transferable to many other areas as well.

 

Series Schedule:

March 17 - Crow Pose

March 24 - Eka Pada A & B (Hurdler's, etc.)

March 31 - Flying Pigeon

 

Time: Sunday afternoons from 1:30-3pm

Intro to Acro Yoga Workshop

Saturday, 3/23/19 -- 2-4pm

Have you ever wanted to try Acro Yoga? Now's your chance!

Pittsburgh Acro Yogis: Rachel Dobos & Zachariah Cowan are coming to town to show you the ropes. Grab a partner, or come on your own for a workshop centered around the basics of Acro Yoga.
 
In this workshop you will:
-be introduced to the five fundamental concepts of Acro Yoga
-learn how to fly/base in some beginner poses
-learn how to move through some beginner transitions
-have time to play and ask questions!
 
Date: Saturday, March 23, 2019
Time: 2-4pm
Workshop fee: $40 per person, OR $75 per couple when purchased together

Beginner Power Vinyasa Yoga

Held on the first Sunday of every month -- 1:30-3:30pm

You can now join Shelley Lorenze on the first Sunday of every month as she breaks down the the basic postures found in a yoga class at a slower pace.
 
Attending one of these workshops is a great way to ease yourself into joining us for group classes at the studio, or to refine your physical alignment to help you in the classes that you are already taking. Each workshop will close with a brief meditation to help you leave feeling zen!
 
In these workshops you will:
  • Get an overview of the names of the most common yoga postures, what they look like, and how to do them
  • Get detailed instruction on safe alignment and modifications to suit your body in these poses
  • Get an idea of how a typical class at Suncrest Yoga is structured
  • Get a brief introduction to the concept of slowing things down with meditation
  • Have the opportunity to ask questions and work on your personal practice!
